NIGHT WORLD
an evening of art, architecture, fashion & performance inspired by architect Bertrand Goldberg

Experience Night World, an exhibit of original visual arts, architecture and performance on Saturday November 8th, 2008 from 7:00pm – 1:00am. This annual multi–faceted event takes place at FOUNDATION (1221 Union Ave. Kansas City Mo. 64101). Architectural drawings by Bertrand Goldberg create a back drop for a futuristic fashion show presented by Wearhaus. The fashion show will feature fantasy designs by Kansas City fashion designers Melissa Birdsong, Cali Roberta, Take A Halliday, Steilope and birdies – Stella Replied. Special musical guest performances include Onemilliontinytinyjesuses, Expo 70, London Transit and Mannequin Skywalker. Performance ensemble Thieves of Flight will execute their athletic aerial artistry in conjunction with special visual effects artist VJDN8 and Dj Meatfoxxx. Works by fine art artist Sara Ann Gallagher and Melanie Kasten will be on exhibit in the Night World gallery. General admission tickets are available only at the door the night of the event for $10.00 per person. Reserved seating for the 9:30 fashion program is available for an additional $5:00 per person with advance ticket purchase only at FOUNDATION ($15.00).

Night World exhibit is inspired by the presentation drawings for Bertrand Goldberg's 1979 Night World project. The exhibit brings to life the architect's vision of a designed but never built entertainment complex consisting of multiple public activities. His Night World design included car shows, theatre, music, fashion shows, shopping, restaurants, bars and discos. Come view the rare collection of original architectural drawings and interact within the social and architectural philosophy from which the plans were designed.

Bertrand Goldberg is one of America's most instrumental architects in modern design but is often overlooked. The Chicago native is perhaps best known for his Marina City (1962) and River City (1985) buildings in Chicago. Goldberg studied under Meis van der Rohe at the Bauhaus in Germany in 1932. He returned to Chicago to complete his studies and practice architecture. His design philosophy and aesthetic throughout his early career reflected the influence of the International Style. However, in the mid 1950's his philosophy shifted and he rebelled against the monotony and elitism of the International Style. Goldberg developed his own architectural formula based on organic forms that he shaped into structures that promoted social interaction and urbanism.

Foundation Presents is privileged to exhibit and host the amazing cast of locally talented artist, designers, musicians, technicians and visionary participants.
