Night World exhibit is inspired by the presentation drawings for Bertrand Goldberg's 1979 Night World project. The exhibit brings to life the architect's vision of a designed but never built entertainment complex consisting of multiple public activities. His Night World design included car shows, theatre, music, shopping, restaurants, bars and discos. Come view the collection of original architectural drawings and interact within the social and architectural philosophy from which the plans were designed.

Bertrand Goldberg is one of America's most instrumental architects in modern design but is often overlooked. The Chicago native is perhaps best known for his Marina City (1962) and River City (1985) buildings in Chicago. Goldberg studied under Meis van der Rohe at the Bauhaus in Germany in 1932. He returned to Chicago to complete his studies and practice architecture. His design philosophy and aesthetic throughout his early career reflected the influence of the International Style. However, in the mid 1950's his philosophy shifted and he rebelled against the monotony and elitism of the International Style. Goldberg developed his own architectural formula based on organic forms that he shaped into structures that promoted social interaction and urbanism.

The Night World exhibit features original live music and dance choreographed, composed, and performed by Los Angeles' String Theory Productions www.stringtheoryproductions.com. This avant-garde ensemble transforms architecture into giant musical instruments, creating a unique landscape to each installation and performance. FOUNDATION is privileged to present String Theory's creative vision as they convert a Kansas City, West Bottoms warehouse into a piece of sonic sculpture within the Night World exhibit. This limited Kansas City engagement is rare opportunity to see a world-class creative ensemble that rarely performs in the Midwest.

The Night World program inlcudes two fashion shows per evening by WearHaus whom has just produced Kansas City's first KC Fashion Week.(www.kc.wearhaus.org). Deejay Clockwerk is the official Night World Dj spinning sonic delights throughout the complex. Opera singer Jenifer Weber accompanied by cellist Joseph Harvey opens each String Theory performance (7pm and 10pm). Art exhibits featuring works by KC artist Laura Issac of studio rojo (www.lauraisaac.com), LA artist Luke Rothschild and KC architectural photographer Brad Finch (www.f-stop.com). Food and drink bars are provided by Jp Wine Bar & Coffee House.
